This movie is starring Ranbir Kapoor being Sanjay Dutt, but it is beyond any glorification and accusation. Sanju is a fine piece of art and another feather in the cap of Master Rajkumar Hirani. Along with excellence, the movie is a slice in the star’s life, everything is more than what anyone ask from an entertainer.

As known, the film Sanju revolves around the roller coaster emotional ride of a Bollywood star – Sanjay Dutt. The film starts with Sanjay Dutt aka Sanju (Ranbir Kapoor) being released on Parole from his custody for illegally possessing arms at his house. His wife Maanayata Dutt (Dia Mirza) contacts Winnie (Anushka Sharma), a renowned biographer to write a book on his life. The family is looking to present the real and clean image of Sanju in-front of the world.

The movie chronicles through various timelines. When Sanju actually turns the drug-addict. Introducing his close friend Kamlesh Kanhaiyalal Kapasi (Vicky Kaushal) and another friend Zubin (Jim Sarbh). The film moves forward to another phase, Sanju was called a terrorist. If all the allegations on Sanju were true and if he really committed a crime is something what Rajkumar Hirani explores in the remaining part of the film. During the half course into the movie and it feels Ranbir Kapoor is not acting, he’s living the life of Sanjay Dutt. He’s not just the actor, he’s seems to be the person he’s playing. Rajkumar Hirani and Abhijat Joshi have skillfully followed a formula every important scene featuring – drama, emotions and fun.

Sanju is a Rajkumar Hirani film with Ranbir Kapoor reflecting every emotion with ultimate perfection including the walk, the talk, even the accent this performance. Vicky Kaushal is a talented actor. After his work in Raazi, Lust Stories & now Sanju, this year seems to be his career’s best. The actor has overshadowed Ranbir in a few scenes! He is starring sharing a significant chemistry with Ranbir in the film and alike Sanju his character too travels through a series of emotions. Paresh Rawal provides a support cast as Sanju’s character as his dad, Sunil Dutt. He presents many interesting aspects of Sunil Dutt’s life. Paresh Rawal is positive and enthusiastic as Sunil Dutt. Manisha Koirala as Nargis Dutt is brilliant! She conveys the charm of the veteran actress on-point. Anushka Sharma does justice to her small role. Sonam Kapoor is graceful and great in her role. Jim Sarbh is impressive after a part he plays in Padmaavat and he’s superb in this one either. Karishma Tanna is seen in one scene and she looks beautiful in her cameo.

Rajkumar Hirani is great at story telling more than anyone in Bollywood. He has explored emotions in Sanju!  Ranbir Kapoor’s transformation as Sanju was creditable and Hirani deserves the praises to see him Dutt. This is an exceptional biopic to come out of Bollywood.

The film has 3 songs that are out, there’s one closing-credits song in the film. Vikram Montrose’s Kar Har Maidan Fateh is the anthem of the film. Shekhar Astitwa’s lyrics and Sukhwinder Singh’s voice makes the song. Rohan-Rohan’s Main Badhiya is average but is saved by some expressions by Ranbir Kapoor. A.R. Rahman’s Ruby Ruby is stoners’ music and lifts the mood in the film. The closing credits’ song is special.

Sanju entertains and has many exciting scenes that are mind blowing. Ranbir Kapoor remains in the act throughout the film. Vicky Kaushal must get better roles after this film. Rajkumar Hirani is par excellence and achieves appreciation the 5th time in a row!

Sanju releases on 29th June, 2018.
