Laila Majnu presents the madness in love starring Avinash Tiwary. The songs are beautifully written and dialogues are hard hitting, Imtiaz Ali’s writing presents love to be a vast ground to explore. Imtiaz presents a new aspect and showcases it in a beautiful way! The film does appeal if the audience is able to understand and evoke their inner lover and still there will be many people who will find it tough to do the same.
The movie begins where the guys in Kashmir stalk Laila (Tripti Dimri). This girl has a reputation of being liked by many in the city, Laila is fun loving and wants to live her life at the fullest. We get to meet Qais Bhatt (Avinash Tiwary), son of the rival of Laila’s father also a charmer. He follows Laila and says he has a story pre-written with her. He feels very strongly and manages to charm Laila. Since both of their fathers are enemies and fighting over a land-grabbing case. Laila Majnu presented by met Imtiaz Ali is special and its 2nd half is exceptional. The film does take one on an emotional ride. The story is similar to the epic of Laila Majnu but the way it’s been treated is unique. It has Imtiaz Ali moments and also a mot more for the romantic! Mad and crazy, just the way Imtiaz wanted it, the film offers star performance by Avinash Tiwary – he shines in his debut!
Presenting equal amount of insanity, he performs the act of Majnu that took Imtiaz to write that character. Tiwary lives moments of madness in the film and Imtiaz’s Majnu comes alive. He delivers an outstanding performance for this one. He brings out emotions and expresses it with all his heart and manage to act in the original way. Tripti Dimri manages to portray the role of Laila who has a lot to offer. Showcasing emotions, she is beautiful even when she is laughing, acting angry and excels in every department. Parmeet Sethi is good though his character gets monotonous after a point. Sumit Kaul gives a good performance as the annoying Ibban. He has captured the Kashmiri accent well which works well in his favour. Benjamin Gilani has a few scenes and is decent.
Laila Majnu by Sajid Ali is great, the film still belonged to his brother Imtiaz. Making his debut, with Sayak Bhattacharya’s cinematography, Sajid has captured Kashmir that is beautiful and a well directed film! Their music is fantastic. Atif Aslam/Javed Ali’s Tum, Arijit Singh’s Aahista & Mohit Chauhan’s Haafiz Haafiz – these three songs conveys a lot more than any love story in Bollywood. The transition during Haafiz Haafiz, Laila Laila are cheerful and heals the heaviness of the heart.
Laila Majnu by Imtiaz Ali films has a loyal fan following and offers entertainment. Laila Majnu is a heartbreaking story and this film is tough to watch visually, one needs to have their heart to be at right place to appreciate this film.
