Review: Thugs Of Hindostan
Music Director/s: Ajay-Atul
Our Rating: 2.5/5 Stars (Two and half stars)

For films that are based on period dramas in Bollywood, music plays an integral part to them. Films such as Mughal – E – Azam, Devdas have seen composers come up with music pertaining to the particular eras of those films. A.R. Rahman has got the feel for this genre. Though Thugs Of Hindostan had the right match for someone like Rahman or Pritam, the makers have chosen Ajay-Atul.

Thugs Of Hindostan is following a similar template as A.R. Rahman’s Mohenjo Daro, the ‘arra-ra-ra’ start of Vashmalle is an indication of how this is a song from a period drama. The song is chosen by Ajay & Atul to be sung by deep-voiced singers – Vishal Dadlani and Sukhwinder Singh. But unfortunately choosing singers and utilizing them at their fullest did not pay well. Tune is good and hummable but Amitabh Bhattacharya’s lyrics require to be heard for multiple times to understand them well.

Thugs Of Hindostan song – Suraiyya instantly reminds of Bloody Hell from Rangoon. The instruments on this one is great. The song starts slow but it gets the groove as it proceeds. The lyrics of the song are average.

Thugs Of Hindostan song – Manzoor-E-Khuda – This is the most situational song of the film and will become popular. It has a mysterious element throughout. This will surely do well in the film and good work by Ajay & Atul. Thiis is a good song for the film such as Thugs Of Hindostan. The ‘dhamaakedaar’ SSS combo of Shreya, Sunidhi and Sukhwinder work well for the song.

Thugs Of Hindostan is a well arranged album when it comes to music but does not have any blockbuster. Amitabh Bhattacharya’s lyrics are not up to the mark.
