Neon has revealed the second trailer for The Beach Bum, writer/director Harmony Korine’s seaside comedy starring Matthew McConaughey. The actor is playing a “rebellious rogue” named Moondog living large and mostly high in Miami. The movie also stars Isla Fisher, Zac Efron, Snoop Dogg, and Martin Lawrence. The first trailer for The Beach Bum certainly sold the film’s wild, neon-colored tone, with McConaughey slurring off the line, “Life’s a fucking rodeo. I’m gonna suck the nectar out of it and fuck it raw ’til the wheels come off.”
The Beach Bum is Korine’s first film since writing and directing 2012’s Spring Breakers. The filmmaker had made controversial Kids in 1995, the NC-17 drama that featured Chloë Sevigny and Rosario Dawson in their movie debuts. Now, this red-band trailer for The Beach Bum teases a story that is not just about McConaughey’s Moondog going on a drug-fueled downward spiral, but also offers some potential for redemption in law. It could result in as a culmination of all of McConaughey’s quirky, affected, druggie, player characters he’s performed over the course of his career, it’s sure to be an ideal summer stoner comedy, even if it is opening this spring.
The Beach Bum also stars Jonah Hill, Isla Fisher, Martin Lawrence, and Jimmy Buffett will be ready to release in theaters on March 22nd after making its world premiere at the 2019 SXSW Film Festival.
