The Hole in the Ground is an Irish horror film that revolves around a mother and her son. With a creepy setting, the colours in the film are intentionally low to lay emphasis on the doom and gloom. Western European settings seems ideal with their cold, wet climate that brings out the entire appeal for horror fans.

Seána Kerslake’s Sarah O’Neill plays the mother who is looking to bury her traumatic past by establishing a new life for herself and her son at the edge of a rural Irish town.

There is a hole in the ground nearby and it is not good for people, especially her son. There is no other way to put it. The child starts to act strangely, which includes munching on insects among other things. A woman, probably a neighbour, notices the kid and warns the mother that it is not her son. The mother too begins to believe that either some dark force has taken over her son or he is not her son at all.

The concept seems repeated countless times before in more expensive productions. Directed by Lee Cronin and co-written by Cronin and Stephen Shields, this film might present a different way and the style. The trailer seems to suggest, The Hole in the Ground is going to be a decent watch.

Director Bhushan Patel, who is preparing for the release of “Amavas”, says that the Indian audience has a tendency to compare Hindi horror films with the Hollywood ones and that is “injustice” considering the budgets and markets of the film.

The Hole in the Ground is all set to release in Ireland on March 1. Dates of an Indian release will be revealed soon.
