Laal Kaptaan stars Saif Ali Khan who is exceptional in his role.

This is a revenge drama, Laal Kaptaan is based around the life of a Naga Sadhu named Gossain (Saif Ali Khan), who is also a bounty hunter killing for Gold coins. The film is set in the late 1700s, there are scenes of Battle Of Buxar, the initial years of Britisher’s East India Company and beyond all this, we have Gossain look for his revenge. He is hired by Noor Bai (Sonakshi Sinha) who has a face with scars like Joker on one-side.

Playing a bounty hunter, Saif dives deep into the role in Laal Kaptaan, with some ghosts from the past haunting Gossain. He is followed by few men with the help of an informer (Deepak Dobriyal) who has a strange way of finding people. Saif is out on a quest of reaching Rehmat Khan (Manav Vij) and the remaining story is how and when he finds him.

Laal Kaptaan starts on a brilliant note and with over 150 minutes the film falls low. Shanker Raman’s cinematography is spectacular, The film has action sequences, creepy characters, poetic dialogues, the lots of mysterious setting that doesn’t work for the duration of the film. Saif Ali Khan’s look has been brilliant and could’ve been a masterpiece performance if the story has potential. He’s brilliant but sadly in the wrong film.

Manav Vij’s controlled performance is chilling,  Zoya Hussain takes her first brilliant impression in Mukkabaaz and she’s very good here too. Simone Singh is great and effective. Deepak Dobriyal is exceptional and has the unique traits of his character in the most entertaining way possible. Laal Kaptaan has Navdeep Singh focus on visual aspects of the film. Lots of rustic locations are used and Navdeep is able to combine them with aerial drone shots. Action sequences are shot in the dark use the fluorescent light and they look great. The story is average and couldn’t keep up.

Benedict Taylor & Naren Chandavarkar, the combination behind the BGM. A couple of songs are used in the background

Laal Kaptaan releases on 18th October 2019.
