Maleficent: Mistress of Evil is a shining Disney film, with its layers of darkness as its prequel suggests that we could see an all-dark film by Disney in near future.
The performances to cinematography, everyone in Maleficent: Mistress of Evil including the story is exciting. With Angelina Jolie on the screen fans will enjoy the film.
The film continues and justifies the ending of Maleficent (2014). The story begins right from it ended in 2014’s Maleficent, Princess Aurora (Elle Fanning) has taken over as the Queen of Moors. She’s diverted to a place through a usual way, where Prince Phillip (Harris Dickinson) proposes her. The marriage between the two is said to unite the two kingdoms of Moors & Ulstead, ultimately reuniting the humans and the fairies. Phillip’s mother, Queen Ingrith (Michelle Pfeiffer) plays the mother-in-law of daily soaps when she gets to know about the propose. She has been plotting to misuse this royal marriage to divide humans and fairies forever. She has a workshop below her wardrobe room in which she has minions working on producing ‘red dust’ which is very lethal to the fairies. Ingrith asks Aurora to invite her godmother Maleficent (Angelina Jolie) to the wedding. Now it’s Maleficent VS Ingrith and this uncalled-for Sleeping Beauty sequel ends on a predictable note. The film features Henry Braham’s camera work, director Joachim Ronning skillfully utilized the jungle for some brilliant 3D effects.
Maleficent: Mistress of Evil showcases Angelina Jolie who is beautiful and ideal as the mistress of evil. Her performance is the biggest takeaway from the film. Apart from the looks, the actress also adds to the entertaining comical gaps which are much required in the film. Elle Fanning is charming, her presence brings out the character well. Michelle Pfeiffer, who played the role of Prince Phillip’s mother, had scope to strengthen the intrigue but could not succeed due to writing. Sam Riley is decent in the film with less screen presence.
Maleficent: Mistress of Evil is directed by Joachim Ronning, the film focuses on minute details. Linda Woolverton’s story gives the film 118 minutes. Geoff Zanelli’s background score in Christopher Robin is great, the music gets overpowered by the visuals.
Maleficent: Mistress of Evil Movie releases on 18th October 2019.
