Ayushmann Khurrana makes the bald look good, Bala shines bright in Amar Kaushik’s comedy. Niren Bhatt’s writing is exceptional. Bala also stars Yami Gautam and Bhumi Pednekar in pivotal roles.

The story line is written skillfully as it moves way above discussing about premature baldness or skin-shaming, it shares about accepting individuals as they are.

The film offers a lot more than what it suggests in the trailer, it’s not just give details but explains it with sequences. Ayushmann Khurrana is Balmukund here, a lover of his hair, gets jitters when he starts loses them as he grows up. He is friends with Latika (Bhumi Pedenkar), who’s of a darker skin tone, Bala ignores her because he’s attracted to physical beauty. After he turns an adult, he finds that he has few hairs left, then the task of trying to hide it with a cap or half-covered mirror begins. After various failed solutions in 2 years, Bala decides to wear a wig and meets Pari (Yami Gautam). Pari is beautiful and is also a tik-tok queen, she likes Bala and gets attracted to the outer appearance. Pari falls in love with the Bala in a wig and is oblivious to the reality. The story shares about the way Pari reacts once she knows the reality and then we see Latika’s role in Bala’s life.

The film ends with Shah Rukh Khan’s dialogue imitated by Ayushmann Khurrana, “Come, fall in love with yourself” and I’m still getting the goosebumps because I now know the backstory behind it. Niren Bhatt, the main man behind Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmaha has written this beautiful story with humorous bits. The story talks about accepting yourself the way you are. It’s about accepting weakness so much that it turns into your strength. Anuj Rakesh Dhawan’s cinematography is vibrant, shot in the zonal of Uttar Pradesh. Hemanti Sarkar’s editing is bang on as it has the film at the required duration assuring a great experience.

Bala is a must watch film that has Ayushmann Khurrana take the credits along with the supporting cast. He’s picking work with every film by adding a lot more expressions and acting skills. He also pays tribute to the stars Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, Ranbir Kapoor making it an entertaining film. Both Yami Gautam and Bhumi Pednekar are in the film adding worthy value to the story. Bhumi is here to showcase the insecure human nature, while Yami Gautam is shining with her beauty making a point towards the end. Supporting cast includes Saurabh Shukla, who has a great presence, Bala has stupendous performers. The film also has Ahishek, Jaaved Jaaferi who gets some good scenes. We also have Seema Pahwa does her magic to the film. Dheerendra Gautam is impressive in scene opposite Ayushmann Khurrana worthy of applause.

Amar Kaushik offers the right feel and two films later, the dialogues are brilliant with conversational scenes. There’s one song – Pyaar Toh Tha which conveys the story and blends well. TaKillYa is well used. Papon’s unreleased track Zindagi is the outstanding in the second half with soulful lyrics and soothing voice.

Bala brings a house full of entertainment. The film offers a valuable message conveyed in layers of humour.

Bala releases on 08th November, 2019.
