Staring out the window while drinking did not go well for Rosamund Pike in Gone Girl or Emily Blunt in The Girl on the Train. It certainly looks that Amy Adams might not have anything good in the Woman in the Window trailer.

The film is based on A.J. Finn’s psychological suspense thriller, which was appreciated by critics as the next Girl on the Train at the time, is served as a cinematic drama that makes one question what’s real and whether our protagonist is a reliable narrator. Adams has given us one of these with the HBO adaptation of Sharp Objects, but now she’s taking this sub-genre to the big screen.

The Woman in the Window stars Anna Fox, who likes to drink during the day because she can’t leave her apartment, even though drinking tends to mess with her anxiety medicines. She strikes up a friendship with her next-door neighbor, Jane Russell (Julianne Moore), but everything changes.

The movie’s release is controversial after a New Yorker piece published in February (which could spawn its own suspense novel) alleged the book’s author, born Dan Mallory, has engaged in deceit throughout his career.

Joe Wright (Darkest Hour) directs The Woman in the Window, which also stars Anthony Mackie, Wyatt Russell, Brian Tyree Henry, and Fred Hechinger. The upcoming film was one of the 20th Century Fox titles in limbo after Disney’s purchase of the studio. The movie is still set to be released in theaters on May 15, 2020.
