Jon Stewart is all set to finally delegate his Irresistible political satire for the audience.
Focus Features has unveiled the first trailer for the former Daily Show host’s sophomore feature as writer and director, an ensemble comedy that pits stars Steve Carell and Rose Byrne in a war of ideals as political strategists reaching towards each other from across the aisle.
The upcoming film follows a Democratic strategist, Gary (Carell), embroiled in a political circus before he gets to find unexpected inspiration in a Marine colonel (Chris Cooper) dedicated to standing up for the rights of his town’s undocumented workers. With the colonel’s help, Gary makes an attempt to win back the Heartland, though a rival Republican strategist, Faith (Byrne), threatens to thwart his plans by disrupting the local race.
Topher Grace, Natasha Lyonne, Mackenzie Davis, CJ Wilson, and Will Sasso have supports roles in the film, while Moonlight trio Brad Pitt, Dede Gardner, and Jeremy Kleiner produced the film through their Plan B banner alongside Stewart and Lila Yacoub. The film marks Stewart’s first directorial effort since his 2014 film-making debut Rosewater, which earned strong reviews from movie critics (particularly for Gael García Bernal’s lead performance).
Audiences can watch Irresistible as it makes its box office debut on May 29. Watch the first trailer above.
