Thappad is an eye opening for the society we live in where a slap is not considered violating personal space. The film is a well written with heavy content. Thappad does not cross the line of being overdone or too dramatic, the performances make the difficult part of being easier for all to understand. The film should be watched by men, for the women.

Taapsee Pannu is seen playing the role of a housewife Amrita who’s living her family’s dreams. Her husband Vikram (Pavail Gulati) is just another husband who is managing between what should be done and what he does. An ambitious businessman, Vikram is a loving husband to Amrita and they both are looking to shift to the UK after his promotion. Everything is great until when Vikram slaps Amrita during a house-party. For Amrita, the slap turns a lot more than one can imagine. She makes a decision of calling it quits after facing various point-of-views from people around her. What decision and steps she takes because of a slap, that’s the film all about. Those into such kind of films, will notice that the makers have made a feature film around the concept of a short film. Sinha has his way of serving the story that everyone gets out as a better version of yourself. The script questions the last bit of patriarch in the audience. The film is heavy.

Taapsee Pannu gives a good performance neatly balanced. With a little to ‘talk’ about, there is more to see it to feel it. All the characters of the film are great. Kumud Mishra plays around with the innocence of his character well. Pavail Gulati is exceptional. Ratna Pathak Shah reminds us of her performances from Sarabhai and Kapoor & Sons. She plays a mother in both and now we see her in Thappad. She gives a controlled performance and has matered the art of  featuring emotional sequences. Tanvi Azmi supports the scenes as a natural charmer, Dia Mirza shines up the frame with her presence. Maya Sarao, Naila Grewal are all great.

Thappad has Anubhav Sinha adapt the serenity from some Iranian, Turkish movie. The film has just one song ‘Ek Tukda Dhoop’ which is ideally matched for the film. Mangesh Dhakde’s backgrounds score is full of impact.

The film is a must watch.

Thappad releases on 28th February 2020.
