Gunjan Saxena movie is a great biopic! Dhadak star has yet again surprised everyone. Janhvi starrer with patriotism as the backdrop doesn’t include National Anthem for the sake of it. A must-watch biopic Janhvi, Pankaj have excelled in this incredible story!

Gunjan Saxena’s (Janhvi Kapoor) is obsessed with aero-planes began when she get to see its cockpit as a young child. The decade – the 90s makes her deal with opposition from every side for her decisions to be a pilot. Everyone apart from her father (Pankaj Tripathi) is against her but her passion for flying planes keeps wish of years.

She faces lots of obstacles in her way of being a pilot and the story is all about how she deals with them. How she pivots her dream right from being just a pilot to join the air-force. How she becomes the only girl of her batch facing  men and the disparity. How she’s get to go for the most important missions – Kargil War and much more. The film script of Gunjan Saxena celebrates underrated writer of Bollywood – Nikhil Mehrotra. The person in movies like Dangal and Chichhore, Nikhil is yet again here with a good script. Joining with director Sharan Sharma, Nikhil  presents a good biopic.

Keeping the length close to 2 hours, Nikhil manages to it crisp and everything in exact proportion. Editor Nitin Baid (Masaan, Raazi, Gully Boy) has said, “The invisibility of editing makes it a well-edited film” and that’s what he follows here. Another underrated artist of Bollywood, Nitin has been a fan of ‘move the plot’ style of editing and Gunjan Saxena is crisp because of the same. He manages to move the plot putting in interesting things at frequent intervals. Manush Nandan’s camera captures the thrills, emotions and thrills. Stunt coordinator Marc Wolff (Mission Impossible) ensures to keep the action profound and non-gory, which is a good (for CBFC) and a bad (for the lack of authenticity) thing. There are some dialogues (additional: Hussain Dalal) which incite the patriotic feel.

Gunjan Saxena is also a good film because of Pankaj Tripathi. With well controlled dialogue delivery, Pankaj becomes the emotional basis of the film. Vineet Kumar Singh playing the role of CO Dileep Singh brings out the crude character he potrays. Angad Bedi gives his best and shines in a small character of Gunjan’s brother. Wish we could see more of Manav Vij and Ayesha Raza Mishra. Gunjan Saxena is an extremely promising debut by Sharan Sharma. Amit Trivedi’s music is a mixed bag with very ordinary lyrics by Kausar Munir.

Gunjan Saxena stars Gunjan Saxena with the definition of a ‘perfect biopic’ in Bollywood.

Gunjan Saxena releases on 12th August, 2020.
