Roohi starring Rajkummar Rao, Varun Sharma, Janhvi Kapoor is out! The film is definitely good with performances, background score etc.

The story starts with the footage that is shot by an American reporter, who then is invited to shoot the village Bagadpur’s tradition – bride- kidnapping (or called, ‘pakdai shaadi’ in the film). Bhawra Pandey (Rajkummar Rao) and Kattani Qureshi (Varun Sharma) are professionals who kidnap brides until they have to abduct Roohi (Janhvi Kapoor).

The story revolves around two people kidnapping a girl trapped with a mudiya-pairi (spirit) looking for a body to live in forever. They start facing trouble when both Bhawra and Kattani fall in love with the same girl. The story reached a point when one has to pay attention to grab the plot.

Roohi is written by Mrighdeep Singh Lamba and Gautam Mehra, the story is a good with horror and comedy needs to be on-point in a horror-comedy. There are a good and reliable set of performers, the continuity is missing. The script writers had to deal with two different genres. To salvage a few things and letting go of a few others – the grip is lost.

The dead comes to life and the makers have the story that is filled with angles never explored in Bollywood. With everything coming down to a few good jokes, it is all fine. Amalendu Chaudhary’s cinematography is average and seems just not clear. It does capture the jumpscares very well. Huzefa Lokhandwala’s editing needed tightening.

Roohi starring Rajkummar Rao is great and does set a benchmark for himself in Ludo; the actor shines in Roohi. Varun Sharma gives a fun filled part and is very funny in a few scene in the film. There’s a dual for Janhvi Kapoor as she plays the spirit very well. The movie is fine with Nikita Kapoor’s prosthetics and make-up. Roohi is directed by Hardik Mehta and his work in Kaamyaab was much appreciated. Ketan Sodha’s background score is haunting.

Roohi is an entertaining film and is a good watch.

Roohi releases on 11 March, 2021.
