Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior stars Ajay Devgn and Saif Ali Khan who have given outstanding performance till the end.
The makers did not take the help of animation in the starting credits to explain the backdrop of the story. We get to see how Subedar Tanaji Malusare (Ajay Devgn) evolves into being responsible and fulfilling his dad’s promise of earning freedom for the country. Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj (Sharad Kelkar) is shown spreading the dream of ‘Swaraj’ (self-rule) all over the country.
On the Mughals’ side, we’ve Udhaybhan (Saif Ali Khan) moving to capture Kondhana (now Sihangad). Despite facing a lot of resistance, Shivaji Maharaj decides to send his most loyal apprentice Tanaji to fight Udhaybhan. The rest of the story is all about how Tanaji with his skills reaches Kondhana and faces Udhaybhan. Prakash Kapadia and Om Raut’s story enhances the watching experience. Dharmendra Sharma’s editing keeps the pace tight and the duration (130 minutes) is a benchmark now for the filmmakers.
Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior starring Ajay Devgn manages to give his best with his exceptional performance. His power-packed presence surely keeps the intrigue alive. Saif Ali Khan portrays the role which is expressive. His character is well managed and gets his comical timing right. His character sketch is worth a watch. The film also stars Sharad Kelkar as Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. He is ideal for the role and with subtle tact able to give a profound performance. Kajol shares a few scenes in the film and is good at it.
Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior is directed by On Raut and this is his first Bollywood film. Sandeep Shirodkar’s background score in the film is great. It helps to connect the action happening on screen.
Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior serves as a historical lesson with entertainment.
Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior releases on 10th January 2020.
